Reddit reported $805 million in total revenue for Q2 2026, up 61% year-on-year, as weekly active users passed the 500 million mark for the first time. Advertising revenue climbed to $762 million, a 64% increase, and video ad revenue more than doubled over the same period.
The earnings call, held on the same day the figures dropped, made a single recurring case: human conversation is becoming scarcer online, and Reddit wants to own it. Chief Executive Steve Huffman put it bluntly: "As the internet becomes flooded with synthetic content, people are craving real human perspective. We are the antidote to an automated web."
What did Reddit actually sell to get here?
Two product lines carried most of the weight. Reddit Max, the company's AI-powered ad suite, grew more than 60% quarter-on-quarter and lifted revenue more than 150%. Reddit also kept adding advertisers: the active advertiser count rose more than 70%, while mid-market and small-business customer counts roughly doubled.
Does the AI strategy replace moderators?
No. Reddit uses large language models to assist human moderators, not to replace them. The system blocked 23 million spam views per day before they reached a human user, the company said. Even so, user exposure to spam only fell 20% from January to March 2026, a gap that points to where moderation still slips. Huffman framed the approach as a funnel: "Using LLM-assisted moderation, we can help bring in the prospective great user and continually get better at keeping the spammers and other bad behaviors out."
How does that translate into ad performance?
Reddit Max's Tailored Creatives tool uses AI to pick the most relevant communities before generating creative variations from existing brand assets. Marketers using it cut cost per action by roughly 15% and lifted results volume by 28%, Reddit said. Chief Operating Officer Jen Wong tied the gains to measurement rather than reach: "With dual attribution, we combine our first-party attribution signals with existing mobile measurement partner signals to improve our ML models, campaign optimization, and advertiser outcomes."
What is the platform not yet capturing?
The recommendation feed, Reddit admitted, still reads about 10% of what users actually do on the site. That gap matters because fast-moving threads and votes feed the relevance signal advertisers pay for. Reddit said it is rebuilding the feed to surface timely posts and lift new-user retention, which has already risen 50% year-on-year on a relative basis.
What does this change for advertisers and brands?
It tightens the loop between a community conversation and a measurable purchase decision. Reddit crossed 500 integrated merchant accounts through its Shopify integration in May, and a Q2 alpha test of Shopping Listing Ads delivered 1.5 times higher return on ad spend for consumer packaged goods. Shopping-related conversations on the platform rose 40% in the quarter.
What does it change for the customer experience teams watching this?
The useful question is whether community-driven content now outweighs perfectly polished brand content in the buying journey. Huffman's answer was direct: "AI compresses the internet into summaries. Reddit delivers the opposite: deep discussions, passionate debates, and lived experiences. People don't want a summary of Reddit, they want Reddit." For CX leaders, that means peer-to-peer context is becoming a differentiator again, and the brands showing up inside those threads with relevance and restraint will benefit most.
Reddit now counts 26 billion posts and comments in total, with one billion added in the quarter, evidence the participation loop is still widening. Daily active users crossed 130 million. Wong summed up the commercial plan in plain terms: "Our strategy is to make businesses of all sizes successful on Reddit by delivering market-competitive outcomes across objectives." The next test is whether Q3 keeps the same growth rate once the novelty of the 500-million-user headline fades.
