Signal notes
- AI Max for Search is now in global open beta, with Google citing 14% more conversions at similar CPA/ROAS for most advertisers.
- Conversion lift testing minimum spend dropped from $100,000 to $5,000, making incrementality measurement accessible to smaller advertisers.
- Sephora US reported a 20% CTR increase on personalized ads using loyalty-tier discount annotations in Google's new member pricing features.

Google used Think Week 2025 in New York City on September 10 to roll out its largest advertising update of the year, aimed squarely at retailers chasing holiday-season revenue. The announcements span five categories: Search Ads, Video & Apps, Creative tools, Agentic capabilities, and Measurement & Data.
The backdrop is deliberate. Google's own research shows US impulse purchases fell from 30% to 26% last year as shoppers research more before buying. Google framed the entire release as tooling for longer consideration cycles and higher customer lifetime value.
AI Max Goes Global, Ads Enter AI Overviews
AI Max for Search campaigns now run globally in open beta. Google claims most advertisers see 14% more conversions or conversion value at a similar CPA/ROAS.
Two new placements push ads into AI-generated search surfaces. Ads in AI Overviews places advertisers inside Google's AI search summaries, with expansion to select English-language countries on mobile and desktop planned by end of 2025. Ads in AI Mode, currently in US testing, inserts ads into conversational AI responses.
Performance Max gained channel-level performance reporting and diagnostics, plus bulk reporting across multiple campaigns. Campaign total budgets — previously limited to Demand Gen and YouTube — now cover Search, Performance Max and Shopping, with start dates, end dates and total budgets set for shopping periods of 3 to 90 days.
The Power Pack and Holiday Framework
Google's "Google Ads AI Essentials 2.0 for Holiday" framework sorts features into three buckets: AI Data Strength, AI Content Strength and AI Performance Strength. Data Strength covers first-party data through Data Manager, which now connects to ActiveCampaign, BigQuery, HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify, Google Sheets, Zoho, and more via Zapier.
The Power Pack bundles campaigns for advertisers who want machine-managed allocation. One configuration pairs AI Max for Search with Demand Gen for channel control; a second adds Performance Max for maximum reach across Google's inventory, with algorithms shifting budget and targeting dynamically.
Loyalty Features With a Sephora Number
Announced August 26 by Jyotika Prasad, loyalty integration lets retailers "personalize member-only pricing and shipping benefits across both free and paid listings on Google." Sephora US reported a 20% increase in click-through rate on personalized ads for loyal customers using tier-based discount annotations. Setup requires loyalty program configuration in Merchant Center and loyalty mode enabled in Performance Max or Standard Shopping campaigns, with customer match data driving audience identification.
Creative Tools: Bulk Generation and Veo2 Video
Asset Studio, described by Product Manager Mindy Lin as "the one-stop-shop for bringing your creative vision to life," launched globally in English, with German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and Italian to follow. It handles up to 100 photos in bulk, generates people and lifestyle imagery including adult faces, and supports A/B experiments for Performance Max assets.
Product Studio added a "Generated for you" feature that scans catalogs and proposes seasonal creative, scene transfer that reuses winning backgrounds across roughly 50 products at once, and image-to-video conversion powered by Veo2.
Video and Measurement
Demand Gen campaigns delivered a 26% year-over-year increase in conversions per dollar, per Google, driven by more than 60 improvements. Web to App Connect for YouTube doubled overall conversion rates for adopters. A new Creator partnerships hub manages YouTube collaborations inside Google Ads, and Shoppable Masthead turns the top YouTube placement into a commerce format on mobile.
On the measurement side, the conversion lift experience cut minimum spend from $100,000 to $5,000, opening incrementality testing to smaller advertisers. Cross-channel measurement in Google Analytics arrives later in 2025, and the Commerce Media suite adds SKU-level tracking for retail media partnerships.
Agentic Advisors in Phased Rollout
Three AI advisors shipped in limited release. Your Ads Advisor reaches 50% of eligible users globally; Your Google Analytics Advisor covers 10% for initial testing; the cross-website marketing advisor — a Chrome extension with voice interaction — remains in closed pilot.
Advertisers can act on most Search, creative and measurement features now. Cross-channel attribution and AI Overviews expansion land at the end of 2025.
